Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a traditional form of Japanese massage therapy that has become well known all over the world. Literally translated, the Japanese word shiatsu means 'finger pressure'.

Shiatsu involves the application of a variety of techniques to improve the body's energy flow. Palms, fingers, thumbs, elbows and knees are used to apply pressure to specific points on the body's energy pathways known as meridians. Gentle stretches and rotation of the joints are applied to loosen the muscles and increase flexibility.

The interplay of dynamic and quiet moments during a session allows the energy flow to be stimulated and balanced. Shiatsu can bring about a whole new experience of inner peace and harmony.

Shiatsu sessions during pregnancy can give you the time and space to connect more deeply with yourself and the process of being pregnant. Shiatsu during pregnancy will support your body in making the changes it needs and improves a variety of complaints, including lower back pain, leg pain, constipation, bloating and swelling, and morning sickness. Many women report an improved feeling of comfort and well-being following the treatment.

What to expect in a Shiatsu session

Shiatsu is carried out on a futon mat on the floor. Unlike other forms of massage, the client stays fully clothed. You will be lying on your back, on your stomach or on the side according to your individual needs and possibilities.

Shiatsu is performed out of an inner attitude of respect, awareness and presence – it it is a unique and nourishing art of mindful touch.

Be sure to plan approximately 70 minutes for your session. 60 minutes will entirely be dedicated to bodywork.

Bring loose, comfortable clothing and clean socks to change into.

To fully benefit from the treatment, avoid alcohol and heavy meals on the day of your session. Do not eat one hour prior to treatment.

After a session it is good to give yourself some time for integration. Avoid rushing and stressful activities. If possible, take it easy for the rest of the day.
